What is behind the current unfolding events in the Arab world? What has sparked the unprecedented movement acting millions of the masses as a single mass, calling for long-awaited change in their societies? The waves of revolt starting from Tunisia, spilling over into Egypt, are now violently striking down authoritarian rules in Libya, Yemen and Syria standing opposed to the will of their people. Nothing else except a call for salvation from the despotic system based on cruelty, corruption, nepotism and plundering is behind this movement. The people, in the ruthless system, remained deprived of their genuine rights, justice, freedom and honour for decades. Getting fed up of the irksome and vexed condition of life they are now out with the demand of a change for good. Now they are making their voices of dissidence heard behind the high walls of tyranny. They call for holding their selfish and greedy rulers accountable for looting the wealth of the states leaving the people longing for better life and basic needs.
Western media know this fact very well and intellectuals, civil societies and even the circles of power in the Arab countries take it to be an undeniable fact. But malice and evil intention of the Western media does not do without sowing the seeds of skepticism and uncertainty and giving the warning bells about the revolutionary feelings going hijacked by the fundamentalists and extremists. To them the largest Islamic Movement, Muslim Brotherhood in the Arab countries is at the top of the list, so they exert themselves to cast aspersion on the Movement.
Maturity, honesty and selflessness of the Muslim Brotherhood, in the current circumstances were beyond any doubt. No other religious or political group can equal Brotherhood for the sacrifices and suffering tortures and torments for over six decades of tyrant rule of Naser to Hosni Mubarak. Despite the fact that the largest presence at Tahrir Square, during the revolutionary stand against Hosni Mubarak, had been of the Muslim Brotherhood activists, but this organization very wisely chose to avoid making an attempt for credit by elbowing other segment of the society away.
Jihad el-Khazen is a veteran journalist and one of the most prominent and seasoned free-thinking Arab intellectuals. Last month after his visit to Egypt and having a vast interaction with almost all the stakeholders there, he wrote a column on April 14, in daily Al-Hayat. In this column with the heading “The Brotherhood’s Leadership Is Very Wise” he writes that Muslim Brotherhood is leading in efforts for reconciliation. This is a credible testimony about the high level of the wisdom and maturity of the leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood has time and assured that it does not want its candidate contest for the presidential post and it is not in fever of gaining majority seats in the parliament ignoring the other groups who had appreciable role in bringing Hosni Mubarak’s rule to its end.
But unfortunately, evil intentions work to employ the same good for their bad reasons. Mischievous minds bring a thought that Muslim Brotherhood’s keeping itself at a low profile was and still is its playfulness, only a trick to silently manipulate the situation in its favour. Zionist and the devilish Western lobbies, who are already extremely jittery because of reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah groups in Palestine, spread such apprehensions to frighten the kingly natured Arab governments, already greatly scared of Iranian ghost, chasing them in their dreams. Some of the most esteemed English and Arabic newspapers in the Gulf States unconsciously pick this type of stories causing confusions in the minds of their readers and creating doubts in the hearts of the ruling classes about the Islamic Movement.
