The main function of politics is to manage and run the state affairs, in a way guaranteeing peace, justice and opportunities of progress for all the classes of the society, resulting in the economic substantiality, social harmony, national integrity and the state stability. All this is up to how high political caliber the politicians have. The caliber is not a thing, divergent from the moral qualities the politicians are rightly expected to have. A political career without the moral traits of honesty, selflessness and compassion is unimaginable. Sincerity and patriotism is also needed as a basic disposition for an outstanding political strategist. Proficiency to safeguard the ideological character of the state and defend its territories is an utmost duty of the ones who come in as the leader their people. Being astute and visionary is another indispensability of the political career for addressing the problems of the people.
Now measuring with this yardstick we are greatly disappointed to see our politicians. Almost all of them fall short of the very basic qualities to lead the nation to a sustainable course of bright and prosperous future. Nothing rather than fudge and failure has been experienced so far from their lack of the moral height and political shrewdness. They are clever in exploiting the politics is a means for their personal gains rather than to be a means to serve people. The politics is now morally going down to such an extent that no room is left for lofty ideas and high principles and is thought synonymous with corruption, selfishness, nepotism and opportunism.
Instead they could bring harmony and unity and create a disciplined and organized society, just for their trivial interests they cause confusion and divergence, sow the seeds of racial and provincial prejudices. Thus the diversities get changed into wider gapes. Lust for power and avariciousness develop their unknowledgeable and imprudent mentality. It is really tragic that the politics remains no more a matter to serve the people or any noble cause but only an unprincipled and unethical game where the politicians are seen ever changing their directions with the winds of their personal and family interests.
