The more a child is obedient, competent and worthy the more he proves to be the apple of the eyes of his parents. In the educational institutions, the students are graded according to their performance in their examinations and tests. At the work places, may it be the public service or of armed forces, hard work and execution of the orders and advices of the senior officers is generally the touchstone for increments and promotions of the workers. In the flower beds and crops field thorny and wild plants are pulled out and only fruitful plants are left to grow properly. This is the law of nature, applied everywhere in healthy environment.
Man has been gifted with the faculties of mind, energy, physical fitness and particularly three great senses thought to be the major gates of knowledge; the hearing, the sight and the heart, to use them for making a perfect understanding and wisely reaching a conclusion about who created him, fashioned him perfectly and gave him due proportion and for what.
“Verily, We have created man from Nutfah (mixed drops of male and female sexual discharge), in order to try him, so We made him hearer and seer.
“Verily We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful.” (Al-Insan: 2, 3)
“Who (Allah) has taught (the writing) with the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not.” (Al-Alaq: 4, 5)
The life is for testing man whether he leads his life conforming to the basic objective of his creation or goes against it.
“Who (Allah) has created death and life that He may test you (man) which of you is best in deed. And He is the All- Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving.” (Al-Mulk: 2)
Two main and basic aims of man’s creation are to show his full devotion, adoration and submission to his Lord. And apart from the specific rites and rituals of worship, his sacrifice, sympathy and help for the people around him is a way to comply with the real cause of his coming to existence. He is constantly judged how much useful he makes himself for mankind and how much constructive role he plays to make his surroundings pleasant to live. His success in the life Hereafter depends on fruitfulness of his life in this world. The following verses of the Quran have a clear call in them for living not vainly and worthlessly:
“Does he (man) think that none sees him?
Have We not made for him two eyes, and a tongue and two lips?
And shown him the two ways (good and evil)?
But he has not attempted to pass on the path that is steep (leading to goodness and success).
And what will make you the path that is steep?
(It is) freeing the neck (slaves and paying the debts of those who are unable to pay) or giving food in a day of hunger (famine) to an orphan near to kin.
Or to a Miskin (needy) cleaving to dust (out of misery).
Then he became one of those who believed and recommended one another to perseverance and patience,
and recommended one another to pity and compassion.” (Al-Balad: 7-17)
Man’s performance as a true and committed believer will be a reason for the position he will gain in the sight of Allah. His deeds will get multiplied by the blessings and bounties of Allah and he will be raised high provided his ‘mark sheet’ brings a clear evidence of high level of his noble deeds.
Allah has given him physical perfection and showed him what is wrong and what is right for him.
"Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him." (Ash-Shams: 8)
Now it is upto him which side he opts to move; to the right or to wrong. If the right direction is his choice then purifying his his heart will be easy for him and making the wrong side his choice will cause a big corruption pushing him to a ruinous end for him.
"Indeed he succeeds who purifies his own self.
"And indeed he fails who corrupts his own self." (Ash-Shams: 9,10)
The standards going to be employed to judge someone's success in Akherah are different from those used in this earthly life. The influence, wealthiness and repute of some people in this worldly life are not sure be ordained in the life Hereafter. A detailed tradition related by Al-Behaqi tells us the same fact.
"Beware! It is more likely for a man living a comfortable worldly life be seen in destitution on the Day of Judgment. Be headful! The one who has suffered only miseries in this life may be bestowed upon the best of the foods and dresses. Be mindful! It is possible for a man greatly honoured in this material life but the things earning him the respect may cause disgrace for him in the Akherah. Look! There are some people who have lowered themselves with hubleness in this life may gain decoration of honour in the other world. Be Alarmed! It is possible someone has usurped from the booty to lead here a reposeful life but in Akherah there is no portion for him save deprivation. Keep in mind! An act done for gainig Jannah, because of hardship in its accomplishment is apparently synonymous to mount a rock and carrying out the deeds taking to Hell are like a descent. Remember! A long time of grief and distress (both in this present life and the life after death) is a probable result of an hour passed in lustfulness and voluptuousness."
The criterion to get position in the Sight of Allah, SWT, are totally different from gaining an honourable status in the courts of the rulers and centres of powers in this mundane life.
