The incident of 9/11 ten years ago was one of the most tragic incident of recent history, which gulped up 3000 innocent lives and blew up sky-high twin towers of Trade Center in New York. A building with hundreds of tones iron and cement perched down like the card house, making many of the experts still unbelieving it all happened only result the planes had crashed against it. Almost all of the attackers who bumped the flying planes into the Trade Center building were the Arabs. Osama bin Laden, the founder of Al Qaeda, then staying in Afghanistan, was held responsible. America demanded the Taliban government in Afghanistan to surrender Osama to America.
Taliban were reluctant to give Osama in the Americans confinement until his involvement was proven in an unbiased and a transparent probe. They were ready to make him appear before any impartial commission set by three Muslim countries. America thought the denial sheer insolence of the sole super power. A new and ugly face of the imperialism in the very beginning of the second millennium of the modern history became evident. Afghanistan was ferociously invaded. George W, Bush, then president of America, wasted not a moment in terming the clash ‘The Crusade’.
Two year later, in 2003, Iraq became the target of the imperialistic designs, which was, in spite of its point-blank and repeated denial, blamed to possess the weapons of mass destruction. UNO teams sent to scrutinize the matter also explicitly cleared Iraq of the blame. But might was proved right with heavy American forces to run over the cities and town, killing human beings and destroying infrastructure to its worst. The number of Iraqi civilians wolfed down by this war rose to 125 thousands including the women, children and elderly people and more than ten thousands soldiers were killed. Hundreds of the babies and children died longing for milk and medicines which was banned to import from out.
Mistakes, even of the individuals, never remain too barren to evident more mistakes. Missteps are multiplied if not corrected at the proper time. Being a super power has become a trickery to subvert the global situations. The American history tells us only reiterations of its wrong stands and nothing like correction has ever become obvious. Deliberate blunders of the communities and world powers go with their destructive impacts to long away ahead. ‘War on Terror’, with the claims to make the world safer and more peaceful, is actually far, far behind the set goal. After ten years have passed still on memorializing day, 9th of September, America itself feels a potential threat from Al-Qaeda and extraordinary security measures have been taken to assure the American people they will be safe on the remembering the sad event of their recent history. No corner of the world is out of danger than the American waged wrecking war. Taliban government had brought the growing of poppyhead crop at the lowest level and headstrong war lords were under its control, but now under the nose of the Americans growing the poppy crops are high in Afghanistan giving an excessive rise to drug trafficking. Somali pirates, a new element in the terrorist groups have made the seas unsafe.
Pakistan’s military dictator, Parvez Musharaf, faintheartedly bowed to a midnight call of Colin Powel, then American secretary of the state, threatening to be pushed to ‘The Age of Stones’ if not became the front line ally in this devastating war, but after owning this war, it is the country badly affected as the cost of this partnership. More than 290 suicide bombings, bomb blasts, subversive activities of the terrorists have become destined since then. Apart from the economic plight in result of this war, loss of lives of the civilians, men from law enforcing authorities and soldiers and officers at war has risen to 37 thousands, seeming no end to it so far. Pakistan has suffered the economic loss of 67 billion dollars. The more our partnership in this war prolongs the more our financial wreckage and loss of lives grows.
Blood of two million people both in Afghanistan and Iraq and 4 millions severely wounded and permanently became disabled for life. More than twelve thousands Afghan and around 50 thousands militants both in Afghanistan and Iraq have become the fuel of this war furnace. The number of the journalists killed in this war is 186 journalists and 266 workers of the humanitarian organizations also lost their lives. The immigrants running away from the furnace of the war to the neighboring countries for refuge are around 8 millions.
Bringing the Taliban and Saddam governments down was only a minor sign. Mischievous term ’War on Terror’ coined by the neo-cons of the Republican Party, in fact denotes establishing global military, political, cultural and legal hegemony of the Americans over whole of the world. Fiercely using the military power is against all the governments and the organizations, in the Muslim world, that are thought repudiating the American domination. But is America successful in its triumph? The answer is clearly in negative. With its 6200 military men put slain in this war a loss of 3700 billion dollars, making its economy immensely decayed. American image in the world has got badly damaged and its splendor and dignity is marred now. The promises to bring the humanity peace, democracy and prosperity are far away to be fulfilled. Restlessness and sense of being insecure is now a serious global matter.
Then who is winner in this war? Only Israel, the present prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who is reported to had commented on the tragedy of 9/11 ‘It Is Good’. Under the shadow of ‘War on Terror’ Israel has committed heinous acts of atrocity against the Palestinian people in Gaza. America could not stop Israel. A criminal, after having lost his credibility, cannot prevent another criminal from committing the crimes.
