America Backs a Convicted Man

For last about 60 years, America has always been protecting the corrupt and unpopular rulers in the Muslim countries because they were the base and ignoble ones who could be lowered to the lowest level meeting the American demands against the interest of their own countries and their people. Most of the rulers, corrupt, unscrupulous and conscienceless, no matter they rose to the power through bullet or ballot, ruthlessly ruled their people with support of the American crutches. Only the American interests and not the ethics and principles had pre-eminence in the bargain reached by the two parties.

It has been the practice in the Arab countries where very recently Arab Spring has caused a big change and also in Pakistan. As long as Parvez Musharaf’s dictatorship did and Zardari’s so-called elected government regards the American advantages and touch important, all the mischiefs of the rulers, their unjust and undemocratic policies, their dishonesty and manipulation, remain unobtrusive and all the voices raised against them go out of favour.

Zardari Regime is notorious for its corruption. For a long time the Western media have been branding him ‘Mr. Ten Percent’ and ‘Mr. Cent per cent’. He, with his slain wife, had been facing corruption cases not only at home but in Swiss courts also. Apart from his huge amounts in the banks in Dubai and different Western countries, ‘6 million dollars’ kept in the Swiss banks is an evident thing. Under the American patronage and some Arab countries’ guarantees a deal between Musharaf and Benazir Bhuto was brought about. An ugly measure, NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance), was meant to wash all the stinky stains of corruption of the couple.

Due to the extreme badness hidden in its nature NRO could neither be approved by pre Feb, 2008 parliament nor from the present parliament. The matter went to the Apex Court. The government felt it needless to stick up for this ordinance. Supreme Court advised the government to write a letter to the Swiss court to reopen the proceedings and get the case to its logical and legal end. The government refused to write the letter.

Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, a nominal chief executive, whose strings are in the fingers of Zardari as the party head to make him dance as a puppet, was made stand rebellious in front of the Supreme Court and violate all the advices given by the Apex Court. While oath taking as the prime minister he had pledged to remain loyal to the nation and country and discharge his duties according to the requirements of the constitution. He would not let any of the blood or party relation become a restraint in fulfilling his responsibilities as the prime minister.

Because of his boss Zardari, most of his cabinet members, almost all of his family members are alleged to be indulged in corruption, he has learnt from the foxy nature of the corrupts to strike his stubborn head against the rocks of the courts trying to break them into pieces.

After a lot of remiss and patience shown by the court he was convicted of contempt of court by his defiant refusal to write the letter to the Swiss court. Now after getting punished by the Apex Court, in the light of law and constitution and also in the light of moral values prevailing in the civilized societies he is unlawfully staying in his post.

American administration has announced to keep the ‘working relations’ with Gilani regardless of the decision of the Supreme Court making him despicable for the premiership. This is an evil example of double standards brought in practice by the Americans. At home they can’t imagine having any convicted person at any position but in the Muslim countries they provide full backing to the corrupt people and encourage the moral evils spread.
