When the news of U S' catastrophe in result of super storm, Sandy that hit more than a half dozen Eastern States came, the Jamat Ad-Dawa delayed not in offering its help to the American people with volunteers, doctors, food, medicines and other relief items on purely humanitarian grounds.
It is to be recalled that yielding to the Indian pressure America also took hardest line against Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and blamed him for the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The same Hafiz Saeed is now ready to help to the Americans, affected by the storm. He said in a statement, " America may have any opinion about us, it may fix bounties on our heads but as followers of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, SAW, we feel it is our Islamic duty to help Americans trapped in a catastrophe."
Response of the American authorities regarding the offer remained antagonistic and demurring. Acting State Department spokesman Mark Toner recalled that Saeed is wanted for the 2008 attacks which killed 166 people, including six Americans.
"We have great respect obviously for the Islamic tradition of social assistance to those who are in need, no matter where they might be," Toner told journalists. But "this particular offer strikes us as very hollow." Sandy hammered the eastern United States early Tuesday, flooding much of New York City, causing a trail of damage across several states and leaving more than 50 people dead.
It is to be remembered that Saeed's charity has long denied terror accusations and is known in Pakistan for its relief work after the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 floods.
He was put under house arrest a month after the Mumbai attacks, but was later released after Pakistani courts ruled there was insufficient proof to hold him.
Hafiz Saeed's offer is all in conformity with Islamic beliefs and moral values. Islam, as the religion of auspiciousness, mercy and sympathy, teaches to help all the people hit by afflictions and miseries regardless of their faith, color, race and language.
There are numerous examples of following these teachings by the Muslims. The present crusader, America, seems never having the historical truths kept in consideration, but the Britishers might have not forgotten how generously their king Richard the Lionhearted was treated by Salahuddin Ayyubi when he fell ill while leading the third crusade. Sultan sent him the medicines, juices of fresh fruit and other necessary things for his health.
What a hard-hearted Richard himself was toward the Jews in his kingdom, can be imagined from his order on the day he was crowned as the king. Jews and women were barred from the ceremony. When a rumour about secretly participation of some Jews in the ceremony spread he is reported to had ordered all the Jews to be killed and many forcibly baptized. The people of London massacred a large number of the Jews.
After recovering Jerusalem from the Crusaders Sultan Ayyubi declared clemency for the local Christian population, ordered the crusading soldiers to evacuate the city within 40 days, levying a nominal ransom, which most of them were unable to pay. The Sultan himself paid for about 10 thousand soldiers and their families. The selfish and callous lords and knights of the crusading armies saved their own lives without showing any concern about their helpless soldiers.
It is really sad that the American administration failed to appreciate open-mindedness and sympathies of Hafiz Saeed for the Americans hit by heavy storm and his offer was thanklessly put in dustbin.
