Muslim Brotherhood is the largest Islamic Movement in the Muslim World, founded in 1928 by late Sheikh Hasan Al Banna, a great promulgator (Da'ee) of Islamic Cause and reformer of his time in Egypt. Though Egypt has Al-Azhar, a highly esteemed and credible religious authority on its soil for last about one thousand years but still it was none other but only Hasan Al Banna and his intellectual team who earned the auspiciousness of cleaning the face of Islam which was badly daubed with the local customs and ignorant practices in its name. After negligence of centuries the concept of Islam's being a complete code of life was rehabilitated by this distinguished leader.
Muslim Brotherhood was at the biginning registered as an NGO. But preaching Islam to be all-inclusive system of life, it could not confine itself to only social works and preaching rituals of Ibadah. Politics and economy actually never remained out of its sight and later developing itself as a political party MB played an active role in national politics until it was barred from working as a political force of Egypt. In earlier period of its creation Muslim Brotherhood was granted legal status of an NGO that could not be impugned, stripped off or withdrawn.
During the consecutive despotic rule of Naser, Sadat and Hosni Mubarak, MB was viciously subjected to unimaginable brutalities by all the three military dictators. Imam Hasan Al Banna was assasinated by the merciless agents of King Faruque, who ruled Egypt before getting dethroned by military officers in a coup.
Muslim Brotherhood became victim of the authoritative rule of Jamal Abdul Naser after he seized the power. He was aware of the depth of idielogical profundity and influence of this organization in the Egyptian society, so naturally he felt it most possible impediment for his evil designs and ideologically diversion of the country from Islam to Socialism and Arab Nationalism.
He ruthlessly crushed this organization. Thousands of its activists mercilessly tortured in the jails and many of its top leadership were executed by hanging. The organization remained under ban for most of the time during the dictatorial rules and it could not carry on its activities as a political entity. MB never preached violence and terrorism. Policy shift by Anwar Sadat and his agreement with Israel Camp David Agreement caused a severe negative reaction in Egypt and in whole of the Arab World. In result he was assasinated by a military soldier. MB was again under wrath and suffered afflictions. This cruel policy regarding MB remained in practice during Hosni Mubarak rule.
After the 'Arab Spring' and fall of Hosni Mubarak MB brought a drastic change in its political and social agenda. It created its political wing with the name of Freedom and Justice Party. MB's current status is of an NGO and guide and ideological backer of FJP.
