Overwhelming Effects of Moral Decline

We are now overwhelmed by the social and moral evils. Apart from prevalence of drug, weapon and land mafias, terror acts, like suicide bombing and hurling grenade in the houses and shooting those who refuse to get extorted by the gangs who are out to frighten the trading community of dire consequences if their demands of money are not met are now a common thing in Karachi, the largest city of our country. Unending series of target killing are now not to be taken as ‘breaking news’ no matter how many people go into the jaws of the death every day. Even the thick populated residential areas in posh localities of the big cities and small towns are not safe from the robberies on the streets and banditries in the houses. Thugs and swindlers are free to practice their frauds on simple people at the air ports, bus stops, railway stations and other public places.

The question is why we are facing this disquietude? “A confounding decline in our moral standards” is the answer. Though materialism is now a global phenomenon but having bad governance, lack of accountability and near to zero rule of law materialistic trends are becoming a greater cause to push us ahead into our moral, social and economic wreckage. A big fall in our moral values induces to cruelty, greed and dishonesty.

Politics is now the shortest way to amass piles of wealth and a means of protection from going into the grip of law. Cronies and retinues of the politicians remain not behind in having their share in corruption game. Thus the chain of the corruption gets wider and wider day by day.

Corrupt leaders of the morally sick community have existed to be the role models. Their greediness makes them void of sympathies and mercy. Due to their avaricious nature they become stone-hearted and pitiless. Their pomp and show impacts the common people in their lives. A strong wish to emulate the leaders arises and they also follow them in their immoral activities of heaping up money. The leaders plunder millions and billions while following their traits men from the lower class of the society try to steal at least in thousands if not in millions. Thus corruption, as an ugly feature of the society expands its circle and become a culture. Getting plunged into unscrupulous ways of the leadership, now there is a little number of people in our ranks who feel ashamed of loss of integrity and honesty.

Only a few days ago a Hadith, with its Arabic text and Urdu and English translation, was posted on this blog which hints at almost all major motives of the evils now plaguing not only Pakistani political, economic and social sides but also entire Muslim world. In Eight Points, very comprehensively, the Hadith encompasses whole of the situation. It seems appropriate to take it down again for reminder.

1: The worst among the men is the one who keeps himself fancied and deluded and forgets the Most Great and the Most High.

2: The worst among the men is the one who makes tyranny and maltreat his oddity and forgets the Compeller and the Most High.

3: The worst among the men is the one who remains heedless and playful natured and forgets the graveyards and calamities.

4: The worst among the men is the one who chooses to be tyrant and oppressor and forgets his beginning and his end.

5: The worst among the men is the one who double-crosses and sells his Deen for worldliness.

6: The worst among the men is the one who follows his inner avarice and covetousness.

7: The worst among the men is the one whose temptations and inner inclinations misguide him.

8: The worst among the men is the one whose wishes and desires make him slip up away from righteousness.
