May it be of a secular nature or having spiritual and moral codes, every community has an ideology to follow and indispensability of adherence to the ideology is a never denied fact. The ideology is a set of cogently defined ideas as a guideline for vibrant and living nations. The adopted political and social systems must have a clear reflection of the ideology chosen by the nations. Truthfulness, righteousness and transparency are the moral basis for a system laid down by Islam to establish an ideological state. The social values like freedom, equality and justice are thought to be the manifest statute of the system according to the modern democratic theory. Islam not only impels to sanctify these social values, but also condemns any discrimination on race, colour, language or economic difference grounds and guarantees the rights of freedom, equality and justice for all. While creating a system it is must to cover both, ethical and social sides of the ideology.
The politicians here are in habit of letting only their ‘words’ about the constitution speak louder and not the actions. A sanctimonious hypocrisy! They talk a lot about constitution but pay a little heed to its sanctity. They are aware of them or not, but moral and social norms thought to be the very basics of the system, never seem taken by them to heart. The Objective Resolution adopted by the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan on March 12, 1949 as preamble and after 8th amendment a permanent part of the constitution is an ideological paradigm making. It is actually a fulfillment of the ideological requisite of the political system in Pakistan.
The second part of the resolution determines the social aspect of the ideology with the words: “Wherein the principles of democracy, freedom, tolerance and social justice as enunciated by Islam shall be fully observed.”
Its third part is also of a great significance. It says: “Wherein the Muslims shall be enabled to order their lives in individual and collective spheres in accord with the teachings and requirements of Islam as set out in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah.”
We fail to find any touch of these ideological hints in our political activities and the policies taken by the governments, may they be of purely arbitrary nature or enjoying the mandate of the people. No signposts of the moral, social, economic and political build-up are visible in the course of ruling. The minds tainted with corruption morally, mentally and psychologically get too lowered to keep an ideological vision. In absence of the moral power and ideological feedback how an innovation of a vigorous system is expected to be in reach?
They are morally and ideologically palsied minds fitting in no corner of common social structure. They represent an aristocratic and feudal class of the society, immensely plagued of the moral evils. In a vainglorious sense of being from upper stratum of the society they remain aloof from the common people. Their children get education in the institutions out of the reach of the poor. Their clique of contacts, language of expression and way of living are extremely different. Their centers of devotion and loyalties and moral standards are different from ordinary people. Naturally a system created by them is not in interests of 170 million people but only for the benefits of a limited privileged group of their own.
Mentally too futile to create a wise system, such time-server and opportunist politicians, whose polity has always been killing the lofty traits of truthfulness and righteousness, antitheses to the ideology of Pakistan and having their eyes on their vested interests can never be entrusted with the task of a planning for good of the nation.
‘Annaso Alaa Deenul Mulook’ is a famous Arabic proverb. It means that the leaders are role models for their people. The people follow their ways. In our country avarice, dishonesty and wickedness are their identity. The same are penetrating the veins of our society. Intrigues are their second nature. Wealth is their power and lust for power is for more and more wealth. They have introduced the lies, breach of the contracts and covenants and fraudulence, a culture entirely contrary to the basics needed for the required system. In power or in opposition, they keep on wangling and squabbling and are not ashamed of self-contradicting and retracting own sayings.
Now the system, rotten from the top to the bottom, needs an over all change. Necessarily to be erected on ideological grounds, any new system must have the merits to satisfy all the units of the federation and strengthen national integrity and unity. It has to enhance self-determination and bring harmony between the provinces, erase all the reasons causing a sense of deprivation and equally put them on the track of progress.
The required system ought to ensure the country is extricated from hereditary politics and professional politicians. It has also to guarantee rooting out the influence of feudalism, wealth and monopoly of a few families in the politics. The required system ought to have the potentialities of reinforcing the accountability and thriving the moral virtues like honesty, trustworthiness and truthfulness and blocking extremely imbalanced hoards of wealth. Cheap and expedited justice also remains an important province of the system we wait for. Who will do it and how it is to be done is the question.
