Why some people, heads of the states and governments, cabinet members, politicians, bureaucrats, industrialists, businessmen and others so blunted of the feelings while embezzlements and plunders? Because their touchstone to judge what is real and what is spurious in this earthly life is within the ideology they follow in this world. Because they measure with the materialistic yardstick so naturally they assume a luxurious life, power, a high social status, an access to the power galleries, heavy savings in the national and foreign banks, fleets of costly cars parked in their porch and garage, property in real estate market in England, America or Dubai, getting the children admitted in the most prestigious institutions in America and England and an assurance of their prosperous life. And also because acquisitions and possessions of piles of the wealth by hook or by crook, according to their worldly standards, is their success.
This assumption actually stems from a secular worldview, devoid of any moral standards. This hypothesis creates another premise about death not to be a curtain between this earthly life and the life Hereafter but the last and final stage, ending the life story forever. To them the death obliterates all the signs of human acts, good or bad, virtue or vice, leaving no results and no chance of accountability about what we do in this world.
Another eventuality of this materialistic theory is lowness of character to the extent of never being untrustworthy. The followers of the materialistic theory easily put their Faith and conscience on sale for their worldly gains. They shamelessly prefer to achieve a lot by perfidious manoeuvres showing disloyalty to their own people. Quran gives us the example of Qarun (Korah) in this case. He was from Bani Israel but just for lust of high status in the court of Firaun and chances of collecting huge of wealth he betrayed his community and supported Firaun in his oppressive measures against Bani Israel to subdue them. He was one of the corrupters and tyrants who sought mischief in the land and committed great crimes against his own people.
Even today, most of the very adroit but extremely unprincipled people, captives of worldliness, having a materialistic approach are found following this trait of Qarun with their betrayal against their own people. In our ruling class we have experienced and still encountering the opportunists who are ready to make gains at the cost of not only the interests, honour and lives of their countrymen but integrity of the state also.
It is really nothing but only a delusion and shortsighted assumption about life and its success. Lust for power and greed for wealth, if develops only the hedonists and epicureans character leading to transgression and sinful life, has caused destruction of many communities in the history.
“And when We decide to destroy a town (population), We send a definite order (to obey Allah and be righteous) to those among them who lead a life of luxury. Then they transgress therein, and thus the word (of torment) is justified against it (them). Then We destroy it with complete destruction.” (Al-Isra’: 16)
According to the Quranic wisdom those who make gains of this earthly life main objective of their lives and run after power and lucre (Mutrefeen), have always persisted obstinately in great wickedness, remained stuck only to the ignorant ways of their forefathers and stood against the prophetic mission. The Quran offers us a vast and double faceted concept, above from mundane hypothesis, about what is actually loss and what is really a profit. According to it eventually only those suffering the loss of the life Hereafter will be in real loss.
After indirectly raising a call to worship Allah alone through His Messenger’s declaration of worshiping not anyone other but Allah alone, the All-Mighty, says:
“ So worship what you like besides Him. Say (O Muhammad SAW): The losers are those who will lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Verily, that will be a manifest loss.” (Az-Zumar:15)
