A New Middle East is Getting Shaped

Political Reforms in Middle East have been America’s dream for last several years. Condoleeza Ric, used to stress on the subject while she was in office as Secretary of State in Bush presidency. But by the reforms what is meant in the American ‘dictionary’, is actually what suites the interests of America and which is in no way a threat for Israel. Now after a popular revolution has by itself burst out demanding urgent regime changes and political reforms in almost all of the North African and Middle Eastern Arab countries. The suppressed people, fed up of stagnant and decayed political system, are out in the streets in revolt against their rulers. Tainted with corruption and hunger for power, these leaders for decades, kept the people suffering under the yoke of their tyrant rule, depriving them of freedom, honour and prosperity. The only merit of all these rulers was being in good books of and having backing of the Americans. They followed the wishes of the super power and were ever ready to keep the American interests above all. They never cared about the interests and prestige of their own countries. They have been soft towards Israel because America wanted them to be lenient and friendly with Israel.

Now, when the yoke of coercion and oppression going to be thrown away and salvation of the people from the arbitrary rules is clearly seen written on the wall, both America and Israel seem to be very uneasy. Why? Sudden happenings of a rise of the people with the demand of regimes changes and the political reforms have a nightmare for the Americans. It has shattered their dreams of a new Middle East. What is visible now has a little consistency with the American’s vision of bringing a new Middle east in existence. What has started to get a new ideological shape is entirely against the interests of Israel and dreams of the American.

There remains a little chance for Israeli hegemony in the newly shaped Middle East. This has made both the Americans and the Israelis worried. In the new set up it is more likely that the treaties with Israel signed by the Arab dictators against the wishes of their people become abolished and the relations get sour. If the new governments are formed according to the wishes of the people, a zero chance for the Americans will be to intimidate them. Egypt supplies gas to Israel on very low prices. This dealing is more likely to be reviewed in the light of the interest of the Egyptian people. On the demand of Israel and bringing a relief to it Mubarak had kept 800 soldiers diploid on the Egyptian border with Gaza to seal it to the extent that no commodities of basic needs, medicines and the children food go there. Now despite the fact that all of the Arab leaders want Israel crush Hamas, now in the new winds blowing in the Arab world a sport for the helpless Gazan people seems more plausible.

In the circumstances mostly against their plans, both America and Israel will try their best to let not the existing system totally collapse. Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt has emerged as a strong power broker. It is extremely difficult for the Americans and the Zionists to brook it in the negotiations table for any deal with it. President Obama has already started to show his underestimations about Brotherhood with his provocative remarks that it enjoys a little popularity in Egypt. Will this attitude of ignoring and negating the clear facts help them to gain something? No, not at all. But Devil is not expected to rest without subversive attempts to make the wishes of Arab people in vain.
