Stormy Winds of Regime Changes in the Muslim World

Flood of angry public feelings starting from Tunisia, has spread on the both sides of the Red Sea. It waves are striking the high walls and heavy steel bars of the palaces of tyrant political system in Yemen, Egypt, Sudan and Jordan. Colonel Gaddafi of Libya, also arbitrarily ruling in Libya for decades, not away from Tunisia and not away from the wall where destiny of all these dictators is clearly written. Thirty years old dictatorship in Egypt is on the brink of going collapsed. The chapter of Abdul Aziz Bouteflika, president of Algeria since 1999, is most likely to be brought to its end like Ben Ali of Tunisia. Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh, first chairman of the presidential council for four years and then in office as the president since 1994, seems to be the next target of the unleashed rage of the people. Jordanians are also out to demand political reforms and freedom of political activities. Umer Bashir of Sudan who assumed office of president on 16 October, 1993, is already in trouble due to split of the Southern part with heavy petrol reservoirs and many other natural resources. He was accused of genocide and war crimes against humanity and has arrest warrants issued against him by International Criminal Court. Lebanon, another Middle Eastern country, is also sunk in political crisis.

Hence, we see a major part of Arab countries in uncertainty. No doubt the hunger for power is a major factor causing this turmoil in almost all Gulf States and North African Arab countries. Those who grabbed power through coups, clung to it for decades, are not ready to give it up before Ezrael, the angel of death, comes to them for seizing their souls. They are now exposed to wrath of God and imprecations of their people. Their way of governance has been as if the people of the country were slaves and the land they ruled over was their own property. Arrogance and ruthless centralized despotism has been an ugly feature of their reign over their countries.

They have been stern towards their people and humble and obedient towards their Western masters whom they regard their benefactors supporting their unlawful and unethical rule. For appeasing the Western powers they gave way to their culture and all moral evils. Holding they are all above accountability they did everything hotheadedly and stubbornly. Culture of corruption, nepotism and plunder remained growing. They, with their families and favourites, strengthened their Swiss accounts with the wealth which actually was of their people.

About 10% people of Egypt live below the poverty line and joblessness is on high, while it has 30 billion dollars annual income from different sources and self-sufficient in oil, gas and electricity. The country has been under emergency and suspension of fundamental human rights since the Arab Israel war of 1967. Ikhwan Al-Muslemun, the main opposition party, very popular in common folks, has been always under fire and ban for almost last 40 years. In the Palestinian territory, Gaza, the biggest cage and the largest jail in entire human history so far, is from three sides under the siege of the Israelis and really an extreme of callousness of the Firoun of this time, Hosni Mubarak, the fourth side, Rafa’ border has been sealed for last four years, letting not go any food and the essential goods of basic needs to millions of Gazans.

At last, encouraged by the example of Tunisia and weary of all unpleasant circumstances, the culture of fear has come to its end and thousands of people have thronged the streets in Egypt. Passive voices once greatly intimidated have gained a confidence to be out and loud. The masses, since long subjected to injustice and hardships and quietened down for decades have at last decided to get rid of odious and stagnant arbitrary system standing not on their will but iron fist of the cruel rulers.

The dictator now may not have clutches of the Americans for his support in the face the flood of rage by the wronged classes of the society who have been for a long time subjected to injustice and hardships. This class is now out for snatching its long denied rights. And in this moment of trial the privileged class mainly sunk in sinfulness and debauchery is also unlikely to find shelter anywhere. This class always rakishly enjoyed and lived a luxury life and never heard the cries of badly deprived people, longing for the basic needs is unlikely to find any shelter. Now an affliction seems to have overwhelmed and the Word of God is near to comes: “And when We intend to destroy a community, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the Word (decree) come into effect upon it, and We destroy it with (complete) destruction.” (Al-Isra: 16)
